Greetings all!
This morning an interesting thing happened on the way to drop off one of my kids at the local public indoctrination center. The incident is described below along with my request in turn.
Now, before my Christian readers get all bent about this letter, it is not an action against Christians. I am fine with Christians for the most part. i have several bibles, I like the bible. I think the Gideons are a great organization. What I have an issue with is the selective allowance of activists at the gates of a school, standing on the school grass, giving out religious information of any kind during school hours. I was told by a police officer that if I went back to the school with a handful of fliers discussing non Christian religions or pocket constitutions I would be considered protesting the Gideons actions and ticketed for protesting without a permit. ( Interestingly .. I don’t think we have to have a permit in EC to protest…) If it had been the Krishnas handing out the Gita, I would have called the Gideons and rounded up a hundred bible to give away. My point is simple: it is a propaganda ploy to start conflicts within the school during the day. There is already enough evangelizing and harassment of non Christians in this particular high school, without fanning the flames. It is a way to divide the kids as early as possible so they fight amongst themselves instead of band together to fight the common enemy; those wiping their asses with our precious constitution.
One might say that my counter-action of standing out there wold do the same. However, I am sure that the School Board will deny my request. The point of the letter is to expose the corrupt for who they are.
So, my letter follows. I am sending a copy to the school board today…
Dear Administrators and Board Members;
I am a concerned parent of a North High School Student. On May 5th 2010, I drove my senior to school at 7:20 am and was confronted with an interesting site. The Gideons were handing out free bibles to cars entering the school grounds.They were standing on the strip of grass that is directly in front of the chain link fence that is still considered North High property.
Although I am not a Christian, I am not opposed to the dissemination of Christian Literature. However, I was under the impression that this was not allowed on school property due to the separation of church and state.
I spoke to the local police and was told that this was perfectly legal for the Gideons to be there.
In light of this revelation, I am asking for a copy the schedule of Gideon activity at the local schools and permission for a collation of Non-Christians to stand at the gates of the same schools for the same time period that was allowed to the Gideons. We will be disseminating information on Non Christian religions and pocket constitutions.
I request a written response or list of any questions regarding this request.
